Feminists can’t blame all the sexism in hip-hop on men. Women are struggling to strike an impossible balance being a lady and hard lyrical content. all respect due Mad Rap Fan, but it sounds like you’re blaming the sexism of the rap industry on female fans. there’s just not enough of us to warrant this view. sure, there are loads of girls who buy the hot doo-doo on the radio and shake their ass to it, but they shouldn’t be counted as hip-hop fans–they do the same for garbage r&b. the other girls who would be rap fans get turned off early by that same mainstream gun clapping and stop checking for real hip-hop.
so the sweet female mcs are left to compete for the attention of dudes who are otherwise true heads, but are often more interested in discussing if they theoretically could hit that than in talking about a woman’s mic skills.
